Finding Clients For Your Work From Home Virtual Assistant Career

by WorkFromHome on October 2, 2011

Once you have made the decision to work from home and pursue a virtual assistant career, the nest question is always about finding clients. As a business owner and freelance virtual assistant, you must actively find clients. There are 3 ways that you can set yourself apart and find the clients you need to run a successful virtual assistant business.

  1. Create a Niche Business:
There are two ways to set yourself apart and have a niche business in the virtual assisting industry. You can promote a specialty task and you can become certified.

    1. Specialty Tasks. Most virtual assistants offer many services. This is a way to generate the most income. However, finding one task that you are incredibly good at, and promoting that single service apart from the rest of your services, will generate additional income. This service can be something as simple as “email marketing specialist” or “event planning.” By marketing one specific service outside of the rest of your services you create an additional stream of advertising opportunities. As you utilize these additional opportunities, you will see your business grow.
    2. Certification. Virtual assisting has become a main stream job and with it comes different levels of opportunity. While certification is not necessary to become a virtual assistant, it is an added bonus. Much like the college student that is paid more for the same position because they have a degree, virtual assistants that are certified make more money. There are two levels of certification: Certified Virtual Assistant and Master Virtual Assistant. You can easily find out about these programs by conducting an Internet search.
  2. Blogging:
Blogging is one of the easiest ways to reach a large audience and promote your services. You can create a blog for free on many sites, and promoting your blog is done in much the same way as your personal website. The great thing about starting a blog is that you can monetize the blog with advertisements, generating a second income for yourself. You should also actively participate on other blogs about your industry. The blogosphere can generate more business than any other form of marketing. Invite others to participate on your blog and always accept invitations to be linked with others.

  3. Networking On and Off Line:
Marketing your business must always be the first thing on your mind. Many people know they must advertise and network on the Internet, but they often overlook their local community. It is important that you find time every day to market your business through networking..

    1. Networking Online. Social sites are a great place to interact with people looking for virtual assistants as well as meet others in your industry. Virtual assisting has become so popular that there are also many communities and forums dedicated to this topic. Make the time to interact with these communities. It is a great way to learn about new trends, new services, and new opportunities. It is also a great way to connect with people in your industry.
    2. Networking Offline. You should never assume that the only place to find virtual assistant work is on the Internet. Your community is sure to offer you many opportunities if you let them know the service is available. Participating in community events, joining social organizations, and getting a membership in any B2B groups is imperative. The more you are recognized in your own personal community, the more business you will generate.
